We seek to provide growth of client account value by providing returns better than the S&P 500 at somewhat reduced volatility over the long term. First and foremost, clients who entrust to us the management of their investments, frequently their entire retirements, are not invested "in the stock market". Rather, their capital is invested in businesses. Trading resulting from short term guessing of market or stock moves is speculation and is not part of our investment process. Over longer time periods, stock price performance has a high correlation to the financial performance of the underlying company. A simple explanation of our investment process is that if are diligent in our efforts to buy businesses that grow at a consistent rate, the growth of our portfolio net worth should follow that rate. A deep belief in this principle allows the investor to achieve consistent returns while manifesting immunity to the psychological swings of the stock market.
